Hot Stone Massage

History of Swedish Massage

In the early 19th century a Swedish physiologist and gymnastics instructor by the name of Pehr Henrick Ling developed his own system of medical gymnastics and exercises known as the Swedish Movement Cure.  It was designed as a theraputic system to treat disease or injury in gymnasts.  The system of strokes and streches created a very relaxing experience, improved circulation and reduced muscle tension.  This is the foundation of today's Swedish Massage.

What to expect

Swedish massage is generally performed with the client on a table nude.  You are draped with either a sheet or towel to prevent exposure of private areas.  Underwear is optional but if you wear any undergarments it will prevent us from being able to work on important areas of the body.  Optional areas of work are the face, gluteals (butt) , and abdomine.  We suggest adding glutteals for people experiencing low back pain or heavy stress.  We will customize your massage for you.  Please let your massage therapist know of any problem areas or conditions you may have or if you become uncomfortable for any reason.
