History of Swedish Massage
In the early 19th century a Swedish physiologist and gymnastics
instructor by the name of Pehr Henrick Ling developed his own system of medical gymnastics and exercises known as the
Swedish Movement Cure. It was designed as a theraputic system to treat disease or injury in gymnasts. The system
of strokes and streches created a very relaxing experience, improved circulation and reduced muscle tension. This is
the foundation of today's Swedish Massage.
